چکیده

Subsurface waters have been classified into meteoric water, ocean water, evolved connate water, magmatic water and juvenile water. Geothermal water is mostly meteoric and oceanic water although andesitic waters near subduction areas often contain significant proportions of evolved connate and magmatic waters. Geothermal waters have been classified with respect to their anion and cation contents into alkali-chloride water, acid sulphate water, acid sulphate-chloride water and bicarbonate water. Acid waters are generally unsuitable for elucidation of subsurface properties. Conservative constituents are used for tracing origin and flow of geothermal fluids, stable isotopes (especially 2 H and 18 O) along with B and Cl being most important. Radioactive isotopes and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) have been used for dating. Rock forming constituents (e.g. SiO2, Na, K, Ca, Mg, CO2, H2) are used to predict subsurface temperatures and potential production problems such as deposition and corrosion. Triangular diagrams and log(Q/K) diagrams are introduced as powerful tools in the interpretation of geothermal geochemistry.

Geothermal Exploration Methods

A geothermal reservoir causes inhomogeneity in the physical properties of the subsurface geology due to the high changes in temperature. These physical properties can be ob‐ served by means of varying anomalies from geophysical observations from the surface. These physical properties include electrical conductivity, rock density, magnetic suscepti‐ bility, rock elasticity, and, finally, the tem...

Evaluation of Small Diameter Coreholes for Reservoir Information

Geothermal exploration has been highly successful to date in locating targets for drilling. However, the requirements for an economically successful geothermal well are both high flow rat,e and high temperature. Most geophysical and geochemical exploration methods have not been highly accurate in predicting the depth and actual temperature of a reservoir, nor have they been able to locate high ...

Application of C-A fractal model and exploratory data analysis (EDA) to delineate geochemical anomalies in the: Takab 1:25,000 geochemical sheet, NW Iran

Abstract Most conventional statistical methods aiming at defining geochemical concentration thresholds for separating anomalies from background have limited effectiveness in areas with complex geological settings and variable lithology. In this paper, median+2MAD as a method of exploratory data analysis (EDA) and concentration-area (C-A) fractal model as two effective approaches in separation g...

Prospecting for geothermal energy through satellite based thermal data: Review and the way forward

Geothermal investors need to be confident with the methods and results of exploration programs. Also cutting the upfront cost of geothermal exploration will further encourage investors to consider investment in this emerging clean energy field. Hence, it is of paramount importance to improve prospecting techniques in order to explore where economic concentrations of geothermal energy are to be ...

Exploration of Kahang porphyry copper deposit using advanced integration of geological, remote sensing, geochemical, and magnetics data

The purpose of mineral exploration is to find ore deposits. The main aim of this work is to use the fuzzy inference system to integrate the exploration layers including the geological, remote sensing, geochemical, and magnetic data. The studied area was the porphyry copper deposit of the Kahang area in the preliminary stage of exploration. Overlaying of rock units and tectonic layers were used ...

Application of Probabilistic Clustering Algorithms to Determine Mineralization Areas in Regional-Scale Exploration Studies

In this work, we aim to identify the mineralization areas for the next exploration phases. Thus, the probabilistic clustering algorithms due to the use of appropriate measures, the possibility of working with datasets with missing values, and the lack of trapping in local optimal are used to determine the multi-element geochemical anomalies. Four probabilistic clustering algorithms, namely PHC,...
